When in charge of a website or when running an online business, it is normal to have to upgrade, change features or make some improvements to the site every now and then. If you are just about to do some website redesign, you had better consider some advice before rushing into it. Here are some thumb rules you will need to work with as you start the whole redesign process.
Before you go ahead and swap you web layout completely, you should have in consideration, how your visitors will react to it. Are they going to adapt easily? Will they disapprove it?
It may be a turn off if the visitor logs into your site and ends up feeling like a total stranger. Nobody likes to feel lost when they expected to find absolute familiarity.
Remember that loyal visitors normally adapt to the existing way of navigating around your website and will therefore be lost in translation if you suddenly change the rules. Try to anticipate what your visitors will like rather than impose your own preferences on them.
Take your time when you are working on a new design or trying to bring out a new sleek look to your website. Do everything gradually to prevent there being a possibility of sudden change that causes confusion.
The speed at which the pages load once clicked should also be something worth noting. Avoid causing a drag with new additions or complex scripts because this can be a turnoff.
These are sometimes caused by advanced graphics and moving images and sound files in the webpage. You therefore have to consider whether they are worth having them on your page in the first place before running for them.
Even if you have to do your website redesign, make sure that you do not loose visitors simply because they were too impatient to wait for your pages to load at snail speed. Time is money and browsers will be happy to jump onto another page at your expense.
