A few years back, there was a motion picture that came out and told the story of a man who fought through dozens of perilous situations and risked his life countless times just to grab hold of a suitcase that was stolen by a gang of dangerous thieves. The briefcase contained something very valuable, but it wasn’t revealed until the ending minutes of the motion picture. On the part of the viewers, they might have been tempted to visualize the contents of the suitcase as something that was worth a whole lot, perhaps a large stash of cash, a bag of diamonds, or even a priceless artifact from some historical event. But in the end, that intriguing item turned out to be a single microchip that contained valuable information and government secrets.
The motion picture might have had a made-up storyline, but the concept behind it all could not have been closer to real life. Since in the highly advanced world that we live in today, information can certainly have a potential to be worth more than any sum of money or precious jewels.
An immense amount of information can be moving through the internet at any given time, and this does not include the ones that go through other long distance networks. And since we have previously deduced that some types of information can be worth a whole lot of cash, there has to be some way of protecting it, right?
It is in these situations where SSL protocols or secure socket protocols are required, they are information security protocols whose main function is to create a secure path for sensitive information to pass through, when using the internet or other private networks. SSL certificates, cryptographic systems, decryption keys, etc. are used to make certain that the private data are safe from outside elements and could only be communicated to the intended parties.
These security solutions have been made necessary by the fact that high-tech information thieving is rampant across the internet, these new-age criminals use the web as a means of entering private networks and stealing useful data. Data that they could later on exploit in a thousand and one ways, data such as usernames and passwords, online banking particulars, credit card information, and the like. This is why protecting these information are of the utmost importance.
