Installation is a major part of electrical work required to be done by an electrician. For installation purpose various tools are required like hammers, saws, screw drivers, pliers etc. However, there are some tools that an electrician could require anytime such as lineman\’s pliers. Let us now talk about all the tools required for installation.
Every electrician carries pliers all the time. These pliers help in bending, twisting, pulling and cutting of wires. It is recommended to all the electricians that they should use pliers having insulated handles to reduce the chances and extent of shock.
You can conveniently grip, twist or cut the wires using linemen pliers. These pliers are also useful in hammering small nails and wire staples. Few pliers have rivet around the central joint that enables the jaws to open widely. Such pliers are considered to be good.
Diagonal cutting pliers have a pair of blades that are set at an angle. They have more leverage than side-cutting pliers and they can cut copper, iron, brass or aluminum wires. Some diagonal cutting pliers can also cut through steel, but not all. These pliers are tough, durable and last for years with proper use.
Side cutting pliers have a single cutting blade and just like diagonal cutting pliers, they are designed to cut through small wires. They come in a variety of nose shapes, including long nose, round nose or curved. Round nose pliers have short gripping jaws. This makes them a poor choice for reaching to small areas but perfect for gripping short wires or for creating specific bends and twists. However, long nose pliers can easily reach very small areas.
For removing the insulation covering, wire strippers could be used. This tool helps in removing off the insulation covering as it removes the insulation without damaging the inner part of wires. Using this tool, you can cut the insulation as well as remove it. After this, you can easily use the inner part of the wire. Crimping tools help in preventing us from electric shocks due to collision of wires. If you want to do cutting, stripping and crimping from a single tool then modular plug tool could help you.
Screwdrivers, both flat and Philips head are essential part of the electrician\’s toolkit. They can be purchased in sets that cover the range of screw sizes. An insulated screwdriver should be preferred as they provide protection from shocks when working with electrical wiring and circuits.
Electrical tape is used to cover and insulate wires. Modern electrical tape is made from plastic vinyl. It mostly comes in black or blue color. The colored tape is very helpful for color coding of the wires.
